Francis A. Chenoweth was a lawyer and politician in the Pacific Northwest. He was born in Ohio and moved with his family to Wisconsin where he passed the Wisconsin bar at age 22. In 1849 he moved to the Oregon Territory. He settled in Cascade, OR where he operated a business portaging cargo and passengers across the Columbia River. In 1852 he was elected to the Oregon Territorial Legislature and was an advocate for creating a new territory on the northern side of the Columbia River....

Fayette McMullin was appointed by President Buchanan in 1857 after J. Patton Anderson, first U.S. Marshal of the Territory, failed to qualify on his appointment as governor. Fayette McMullin was the second Washington Territorial Governor. He was a politician, coach driver, teamster, farmer, banker from Virginia and Washington State. Lafayette "Fayette" McMullin was born on May 18, 1805 in Bedford Co., VA. Fayette's father had established a successful wagon train and coach line from Bedford to Estillville (now Gate City), VA which transported passengers, mail and goods along the line.
